Profile summaryPolitics and languages have been a central part of my life from a very early age. After studying Political Science, European Studies and Languages at university, I also qualified as an ESOL teacher through the Cambridge Royal School of Arts and have since been involved in fields as diverse as tertiary education, vocational education, international organisations, consultancy, project management and more recently legal advice. While developing my career and continuing to learn new languages, I also gained a Master’s Degree in International Relations and a Certificate in Te Reo Māori. I have been working in the field of immigration law since 2005 providing high-level legal advice to individuals as well as corporations. In 2008, I became the first immigration professional in the world to hold a license to practice in both Australia and New Zealand. I am a great believer in taking an active role in and giving back through professional associations relevant to my fields of expertise and have been awarded Fellowship by the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA), Institute of Managers and Leaders Australia and New Zealand (IML), Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) and Australian Institute of Office Professionals (AIOP). Between 2015 and 2019, I served for two terms as the President of the Victoria and Tasmania Branch of the MIA and a Director on the Board, having been elected by popular vote of the membership in 2015 and then again in 2017 with an increased majority. I provide training to my peers in immigration law where my previous experience as an English teacher at universities and language schools allows me to stand out as a sought-after educator. Combining my academic background with practical interest and experience, I developed specific expertise in Australian, New Zealand and Turkish politics in particular throughout the years, having lived in each of these countries for extensive periods of time. More recently, my views on Australian politics and immigration law have been featured in various media channels in both written and audio-visual forms. I am a founding member of the AUSPOL networking group of and regular political opinion contributor to the Centre of Multicultural Political Engagement, Literacy, and Leadership (COMPELL) as well as being the Centre's immigration law advisor. I am open to a range of engagements including public speaking, interviews and providing commentary on current political and social affairs.
